This is the best record I have purchased in the past 10 years or more, one of the best pop/rock records I own. The production is a blast from the past, capturing elements of all the music I have grown up with and love without sounding like a "rip off" of any of them. The songs are infectious and brilliantly executed. The song Long Shot kicks off the record with an old Motown sounding bass line and a soaring chorus. The lyrics fit every song perfectly especially on "I Ran To Hide" a stand out ballad from the record, "this new souvenir is the voice of my Dad, saying there's no chance that we ever had, no faith out in Jersey just an old broken church, from out of the shadows we're born from the dirt and we rise, we rise."
There is an impromptu performance video of this song online from the recording studio, it is simple and heart felt and gave me chills.
The band doesn't seem to hesitate at all to fully commit to the concept of this record, there is even the sound of a radio tuning in and out leading into the song "Water Park" as if you're going back in history to the days of doo-wop, every single time this song comes on I am reminded of simpler times in my life.
My only problem with New London Fire is that they don't seem to play live at all. They toured often for the first record but didn't do much at all for this one. I remember reading on their Facebook page that they are spending their time in the studio honing their craft. I can deal with that just fine, I have never seen 90% of the bands I love perform being that most of them are either dead or broke up long ago. As long as they keep putting out records as good as this one I am FINE with it but some fans may miss the opportunity to hear this record because of their lack of touring. It's a shame in that sense.
I highly recommend this record to anyone with a heart beat, especially if you enjoy pop music the way it should be made.
