Good Old War - Only Way to Be Alone 2008

            If you ever thought you knew how to sing, I would suggest listening to this album, and then seeing this band live. It will efficiently make you feel like a complete ass.

            After the split of Days Away, I was eager to hear any new music from the former members, and while Good Old War is relatively far from the genre of Days Away I couldn't be happier with the outcome. This trio has taken acoustic music to a whole new level. The songs in general are well written and addictive, but it wasn't until recently when i had a chance to catch them live that I was truly astounded. With incredible three part harmonies throughout the entire album as well technical guitar lines driving the songs I was skeptical to say the very least at how accurate the performance would be. No one missed a single note, and although they played with a single acoustic guitar the songs still sounded just as full as the album. 

            The album opens with the single "Coney Island" which the band has already made a video for. This track along with "Looking For Shelter" and "I'm Not For You" which all appear on the first half of the record sufficiently fulfill the need for the catchy pop tune, but you won't be left there, as all of the songs on the album have a way of dragging you into them. The A Capella intro to "Window" not only perfect on the album, but was nailed during the live show. I really can't begin to explain how well these three fit together and how incredible the vocals on this album are. 

            Listen to this album! I guarantee even if it's not for you you'll find something you like about it, or the very least a respect for raw talent and musicianship.
