GREEN TANGERINES BAND BIO:

We’re a band out of Niles, IL, a suburb located just outside of Chicago, Il that started very locally, playing shows at Notre Dame and other nearby events. However, after playing since Mardis Gras (our first show ever) of this year (2008), we’ve spread out to the Chicago area and Berwyn. We’ve played venues like The Beat Kitchen, The Nite Lite, and the Boiler Room, and have won Battle of the Bands and the Nite Lite, the Beat Kitchen, Skokie Park District, and Notre Dame (2nd place, but we brought the most people to the show). We’ve played with such bands as Tonight the Prom, The Ready Set, My Alumni, Dear Noel, Swimming with Dolphins, and Goot.
Green Tangerines sounds like all of our influences molded into something wholly unique. Our songs feature recent-indie-rock’s spiky danceable rhythms, carefully-crafted melodies, classic-rock knowledge, and occasionally, unusual instrumentation. Songs can both be upbeat and aggressive, but can feature flowing, Jonny Marr-like guitar playing. Some songs begin with soft, acoustic instrumentation, but later increase in volume and become something to get engrossed in, resulting in live shows that are both entertaining and captivating.
This is due to the wide array of influences. Our drummer Christian grew up listening to both classic rock and swing, developing a style in the vein of Gene Krupa, John Bonham, Mitch Mitchell, and Stewart Copeland. However, he is able to fit this style of drumming into modern music successfully…somehow. Our bassist Jimmy has been a long-time follower of local pop-punk bands, and has been apart of the Chicago music scene, communicating with bands like A Midsummer Derby, The Coast Affair, June, Just Left, Cavashawn and An East Hazel Tango. My name is Anthony Sanders (lead singer and lead guitarist), and I love most of everything ever recorded, from Bright Eyes to Phil Collins, and from Crystal Castles to Bring Me the Horizon.
