3 Albums Out This Week... That You Need (9/22)

By gyaeger Sep 22, 2009
Brand New -  Daisy      After the band's previous album, it is clear to see that they have grown and experimented with every release. You can expect this new release to be the same way. Some may hate it, some will love it, but one thing is for sure, you won't know until you listen to it.    Owen - New Leaves      Owen released a short EP with some b-sides and covers on it earlier this year, but now his next full length is out. No doubt it will be packed with more great songs, incredible guitar... >MORE

3 Albums Out This Week... That You Need (9/15)

By gyaeger Sep 15, 2009
Thrice - Beggars      Their first album since the alchemy index will now be released this week. After it leaked at an incredibly early date, the band decided to push up the release. The album actually leaked before the band had even heard the tracks, before they were done being mastered. I am interested to see what this new album will bring after how amazing the alchemy index was.   Every Time I Die - New Junk Aesthetic      There is a ton of hype surrounding this album, as their should be.... >MORE

Weekly Throwback: American Football

By gyaeger Sep 09, 2009
Good old Mike Kinsella and his former bands. My favorite of them is definitely American Football. Despite the short history of the band, with only a three year lifespan, they released a short EP and an full length album. You can check out some of their songs on their myspace. Look for more info on their wiki page.   Kinsella had been in a number of bands, and is currently the mastermind behind Owen, which has become one of my favorite bands. Owen recently released a b sides ep entitled The... >MORE

3 Albums Out This Week... That You Need (9/8)

By gyaeger Sep 07, 2009
A few albums looking good for this week's list of releases. As the summer winds down the releases are dwindling a bit, but I have managed to find three interesting enough albums you should pick up. Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3      The most obvious of course is The Blueprint 3. Orginally the album was supposed to be released on friday September 11 to coincide with his Madison Square Garden benefit concert and the eighth anniversary of The Blueprint. Reasons for the advance are unknown but it could... >MORE

  1.     R.I.P Dj AM Celebrity Dj, DJ AM, real name Adam Goldstein, died this week , he was 36. He was found dead in a New York City apartment friday afternoon. He had a reality show in the works with MTV, the future of which is now uncertain . An autopsy found undigested pills in his body which suggests an overdose as cause of death. The funeral was held wednesday Sept. 2 in Los Angeles. Police are suspecting a suicide , and friends and family at the funeral recall his 12 step addiciton recovery... >MORE

1.     Chris Brown Receives His Sentence Well after some time on bail, Chris Brown has been given his sentence for the incident with Rihanna. The sentence was moved up and given this week. His sentence entails five years probation on top of community service. The ruling may have had to do with alleged involvement in other violent behavior. MTV was able to decipher what his punishment would include with details. 2.     Jackson Case Officially Ruled A Homicide The case of Michael Jackson's death... >MORE

Weekly Throwback: The Format

By gyaeger Aug 26, 2009
The Format, how you will be missed. The Format was an interesting band, despite the name of the band, which was meant to mock the pop label format for an album, their music was definitely pop inspired. I suppose that was only their music though, as their signing to Elektra records did basically nothing for them at all. The Format is a great example of a self made DIY band that did great things. Extensive touring over 100,000 albums sold, and huge fan base accumulated basically on their own... >MORE

An Album Out This Week... That You Need

By gyaeger Aug 24, 2009
Unfortunately through the spectrum of my musical tastes there is really only one album being released this week that I'm interested in.   fun. - Aim and Ignite      Perhaps a decent candidate for this weeks throwback, The Format, former members of which have formed a new band called fun. Aim and Ignite is their debut full length which will be released August 25th. This album sounds similar to The Format's final release Dog Problems. It could even be considered somewhat of an extension of that... >MORE

7 Most Captivating Music Stories of the Week (8/21)

By gyaeger Aug 21, 2009
  1.     Michael Jackson Doctor Likely going down for Manslaughter It is possible for the doctor who was providing care for Michael Jackson when he died to be arresed next week for manslaughter . He posted a video on youtube thanking freinds and family for support during trying times.   2.     Black Eyed Peas Break Billboard Record The Black Eyed Peas make history on the Billboard charts. They're singles "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" have kept them at the top of the Hot 100 chart for... >MORE

Weekly Throwback: Northstar

By gyaeger Aug 19, 2009
Another band that I wish was still around, Northstar. Despite plenty of comparisons and similarities I always saw them as one of the most original bands I've had the pleasure of listening to. The band formed in 1997, but unfortunately disbanded in 2005 after releasing a couple demos and two full lengths on Triple Crown Records. Although they broke up they released a final EP called the Broken Parachute EP in 2008. The EP was comprised of a couple unreleased demos and some alternate versions... >MORE

3 Albums Out This Week... That You Need

By gyaeger Aug 17, 2009
Okay so we covered the beginning of August, but there's still plenty great stuff coming out that I highly recommend. Here are the three albums out tomorrow (August 18th) that I suggest you pick up.       The Cast Before The Break - Still      Starting with the indie gem this week. The Cast Before The Break will be releasing their follow up to As Your Shoulders Turn On You entitled Still. Finally we get a full length record from these guys and it's sure to be incredible. Produced by Mike Lapierre... >MORE

7 Most Captivating Music Stories of the Week

By gyaeger Aug 14, 2009
1.     In Memory of Les Paul 2.     The Week of The Ailing Rock Stars - Rock stars have been getting sick and dropping like flies this week. Depeche Mode has cancelled another gig due to illness. - Placebo frontman Molko collapsed on stage at a gig in Japan and he wasn't the only one. - Probably the most inspiring, yet probably stupid, story of illness is Jet' s Nic Cester collapsed on stage and was rushed to the hospital as well... yet the next night, instead of cancelling the show, played... >MORE
